DAAD Scholarships 2012/2013, Germany
Postgraduate Courses for Professionals with Relevance to Developing Countries 2012/2013

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) – Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst – supports a range of postgraduate courses at German universities which aim at providing academically educated young professionals from Developing Countries with further specialized studies. The DAAD supports these selected programs with a certain quota of scholarships and with financial assistance for a special tutoring system. At the end of the course (programs run 12 to 36 months, depending on the particular institution) participants can obtain an internationally recognized Master’s or in some courses PhD degree.

University teaching staff, researchers and professionals holding an academic degree and with at least two years of experience in the public or private institutions in the following areas:

Language of instruction:

German or English, depending on the degree course:

  • Participants in postgraduate courses in which English is the language of instruction receive a scholarship for a two-month intensive German language course.
  • Participants in postgraduate courses in which German or German/English is the language of instruction receive a scholarship for a six-month intensive German language course. Please note that the candidates must have certain German language certificate at the time of application.

Criteria for applying:

  • Age limit: 36 years of age at the time of application (for some courses 32 years)
  • For some courses, Bachelor degree should have been completed not longer than 6 years at the time of application. Concerning this matter, please directly contact the coordinator of the respective study program
  • Degree: Bachelor or Master
  • GPA: min 2,75 for Master candidates (some study programs applied GPA more than 2,75. Please see the detail on the website of each study program) and 3,00 for Doctoral candidates
  • Work experience: at least two years after completing Bachelor degree.
  • Language skill:
  • For postgraduate courses held in English request an international TOEFL (minimum score: 550 paper based, 213 computer based, 80 internet based) or IELTS (band 6). Some courses may expect a different level. For detailed information see the website of the relevant course.
  • For postgraduate courses held in German: please see the details on the course list. Certain level of German language exam may be required before admission to the course.

  4. Two letters of recommendation of recent date, each from supervisor at your company/institution, and from your previous academic supervisor
  5. Confirmation of employment from the candidate’s employer in the home country and where possible, guarantee of re-employment upon his/her return to the home country
  6. Academic Degree Certificate (certified copies of original) in Bahasa Indonesia and English/German translation
  7. Academic transcript, covering the complete duration of academic studies (certified copies of original) in Bahasa Indonesia and English/German translation
  8. Secondary School Leaving Certificates/ijazah SMA, including note of UAN (certified copies of original) in Bahasa Indonesia and English/German translation
  9. Language certificate (see criteria for applying ‘Language skills’)

Important Notes (PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY BEFORE APPLYING):

  • You may apply only two study programs offered by this scholarship program. Prior to the application you are strongly recommended to visit the website of the study programs of your choice. If you find information about GPA, TOEFL, application deadline, etc. that do not match the DAAD pre-requisites, you must fulfill the pre-requisites from the study program.
  • All papers must be submitted in triplicate (1 original, 2 copies). Applications, which do not clearly specify the desired degree course, or those that are not complete in all respects, cannot be processed, and will not be considered.
  • Only complete applications will be sent to Germany. The selection at the respected universities will be held in October 2011 until the mid of February 2012. During those times it is possible for some applicants to be contacted by the university to conduct a telephone interview.
  • We are very strict about the deadline. If you think that you won’t be able to submit your application (the hard copy) to the DAAD Jakarta due to the application deadline (28th July 2011), please submit it directly to the chosen study program. You will find the address at their websites.
  • Result of the scholarship: only those who are granted the scholarship will be notified via E-mail by the DAAD headquarter. You will then obtain the original scholarship documents from the DAAD Jakarta.

Menuntut ilmu agama dari sumbernya adalah sebuah kebutuhan yang semakin mendesak seiring dengan semakin jauhnya umat Islam dari ajaran agama mereka. Kerajaan Saudi Arabia yang dikenal dengan gerakan pemurnian ajaran Islam menjadi tujuan banyak pencari ilmu dari semua penjuru jagat. Keberadaan kota Makkah dan Madinah yang merupakan titik tolak dakwah Islam dan selalu identik dengan ulama juga ikut berperan dalam hal ini.

Universitas Islam Madinah (UIM) bisa menjadi salah satu pilihan bagi para pemuda yang haus akan ilmu agama yang murni, juga para orang tua yang memimpikan ada di antara keturunan mereka yang Allah angkat derajatnya dengan ilmu agama. Apalagi, ternyata UIM membuka pintu lebar-lebar bagi para pemuda Islam untuk meraih beasiswa.

Sekilas tentang Universitas Islam Madinah

Universitas Islam Madinah (al-Jami’ah al-Islamiyyah bil Madinah al-Munawwarah) didirikan pada tanggal 25-3-1381 H (6-9-1961), yaitu pada masa pemerintahan Raja Su’ud bin Abdul Aziz Alu Su’ud.

Rektor pertamanya adalah Syaikh Muhammad bin Ibrahim (Mufti Kerajaan Saudi Arabia), kemudian Syaikh Abdul Aziz Bin Baz (Mufti Kerajaan Saudi Arabia), dan saat ini dipimpin oleh Prof. Dr. Muhammad bin Ali al-‘Uqla.

Kurikulumnya digodok oleh para ulama terkemuka dunia Islam, dan saat ini memiliki lima fakultas, yaitu:

1. Fakultas Syariah.

2. Fakultas Dakwah dan Ushuluddin.

3. Fakultas Quran dan Dirasat Islamiyyah.

4. Fakultas Hadits dan Dirasat Islamiyyah.

5. Fakultas Bahasa Arab.

UIM juga membawahi tiga sekolah setingkat SMP dan tiga sekolah setingkat SMA. Menurut buletin Akhbarul Jami’ah, UIM merencanakan untuk merintis fakultas ilmu-ilmu umum dan membuka kampus khusus mahasiswi.

Universitas Islam Madinah merupakan hadiah dari pemerintah Kerajaan Saudi Arabia untuk para pemuda Islam di seluruh penjuru dunia. Hingga tahun 1429 H (2008 M), universitas ini telah meluluskan 20.385 sarjana S1 dari 147 negara, 74 %-nya dari luar Saudi, serta 968 master dan 621 doktor, 47 %-nya dari luar Saudi. Untuk Indonesia secara khusus, UIM telah menelurkan 828 sarjana S1, 19 master, dan 8 doktor.

Bentuk beasiswa

Bentuk beasiswa yang ditawarkan adalah menyelesaikan program S1 tanpa dipungut biaya. Bagi yang belum siap bisa mengikuti program bahasa 1-2 tahun, dan bagi yang berminat, terbuka kesempatan untuk meneruskan hingga program S3. Disamping itu, ada banyak fasilitas yang diberikan kepada mahasiswa yang diterima, antara lain:

1.    Kesempatan tinggal di tanah haram dan belajar kepada ulama Haramain.
2.    Kesempatan menjalankan ibadah haji dan umrah.
3.    Tiket keberangkatan dari negara asal sampai Madinah.
4.    Tiket PP ke negara asal setiap liburan akhir tahun.
5.    Mukafaah (tunjangan bulanan) yang cukup, sehingga bisa lepas dari tanggungan orang tua.
6.    Badal kutub (tunjangan pembelian kitab) setiap tahun.
7.    Badal imtiyaz (insentif untuk peraih predikat mumtaz/cum laude) setiap tahun.
8.    Badal thiba’ah (tunjangan pencetakan tesis dan desertasi)
9.    Asrama yang nyaman dan kondusif.
10.    Pelayanan kesehatan di rumah sakit kampus.
11.    Transportasi antar jemput dari kampus ke Masjid Nabawi setiap hari

Prosedur pengajuan beasiswa

Ada tiga cara yang bisa ditempuh untuk mengajukan permohonan beasiswa, yaitu:

  1. Muqabalah (interview langsung). Cara ini bisa dilakukan di dua tempat:

    1. Kampus Universitas Islam Madinah.

    2. Tempat penyelenggaraan daurah tahunan di Indonesia. Sejak 2003, daurah tahunan ini tidak diselenggarakan lagi, dan insyaallah mulai tahun ini akan diadakan lagi.   1. Murasalah, yaitu dengan mengirim berkas yang diperlukan ke:

Persyaratan Umum:

1.    Beragama Islam dan berkelakuan baik.
2.    Komitmen mentaati aturan UIM.
3.    Sehat jasmani.
4.    Lulus ujian atau muqabalah yang dilakukan pihak UIM.
5.    Memiliki ijazah dari sekolah negeri atau swasta yang mendapat akreditasi (mu’adalah) dari UIM.  Berarti, ijazah dari sekolah negeri di Indonesia tidak perlu akreditasi.
6.    Siap belajar sepenuhnya.
7.    Memenuhi setiap persyaratan yang mungkin ditentukan UIM saat mengajukan permohonan beasiswa.

Persyaratan masuk program S1:

1.    Memiliki ijazah SMA atau sederajat.
2.    Usia ijazah tidak lebih dari 5 tahun.
3.    Tidak pernah drop out (DO) dari universitas lain karena sebab akademis atau hukuman.
4.    Usia pemohon beasiswa tidak lebih dari 25 tahun.
5.    Peminat Fakultas Quran harus memiliki hafalan 30 juz.

Berkas yang diperlukan:

1.    Ijazah.
2.    Daftar nilai ijazah / rapor tahun terakhir.
3.    Syahadah husn sirah wa suluk (surat keterangan berkelakuan baik), diutamakan dari sekolah asal. SKCK dari kepolisian juga bisa dipakai.
4.    Akte kelahiran dari instansi terkait.
5.    Surat keterangan sehat dari penyakit menular, dikeluarkan oleh instansi resmi.
6.    6 lembar pasfoto ukuran 4 x 6.
7.    Tazkiyah (rekomendasi) dari dari 1 lembaga keislaman di negara asal, atau dari 2 tokoh agama yang dikenal, berisi keterangan komitmen menjalankan kewajiban agama dan berpegang kepada adab-adab Islam.

* Catatan: Saat pengajuan permohonan beasiswa, cukup dengan menyerahkan fotokopi berkas yang diperlukan. Diwajibkan menyertakan fotokopi paspor dan visa bagi yang datang langsung ke kampus UIM, dan diutamakan menyertakan fotokopi paspor bagi yang lain.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

OFID (The OPEC Fund for International Development) is pleased to announce
that qualified undergraduate students are welcome to apply for the OFID
Scholarship 2009/10. The OFID Scholarship will be awarded to support an
undergraduate student from any developing country, to pursue higher
education in a relevant field of development, in any recognized
university/college in the world. Through its scholarship scheme, OFID aims
to help highly motivated, highly driven individuals overcome one of the
biggest challenges to their careers ? the cost of advanced professional or
graduate training. The winner of the OFID Award will receive a scholarship
of up to US$100,000 The funds will be spread over a maximum of two years,
toward the completion of a Master’s degree, or its equivalent, at an
accredited educational institution, starting in the autumn of the academic
year 2009/10.

I.Eligibility

To be eligible the candidate must meet ALL of the following criteria:

Must be between the ages of 23-32 at the time of submitting his/her
application.

Must be a graduating student with a Baccalaureate from a four-year,
accredited college/university, or its equivalent.

Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 rating system,
or its equivalent.

Must be matriculated at an accredited university for the upcoming academic
year starting September 2009, and must maintain full-time status for them
duration of the Masters Degree.

Must be a national of a developing country (please see list of eligible
countries).

Must select a subject of study that pertains to OFID’s core mission, such
as: economics of development (poverty reduction, energy and sustainable
development) , environment (desertification) , or other related science and
technology fields.

PLEASE NOTE: Please read ALL of the directions below before proceeding with
the application process:

1. Applicants are responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary
information. Applications will be evaluated based on the information
provided. Therefore, all questions should be answered as thoroughly as
possible. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Once an
application has been submitted, no changes will be allowed on it.
2. OFID will not consider applications received through a third party.
3. Please do not call or email OFID to ask if your application has been
received, or to inquire about your status.
4. Please note that only the winner will be notified.
5. All materials submitted become the property of OFID and will not be
returned to the applicant.
6. Applicants must complete the on-line application form and essay
requirement, and must email the required materials to OFID’s email address
provided below. All materials including the on-line application,
recommendations, and other required information must be received no later
than March 31, 2009.

II.Disbursement of the Scholarship Fund

The terms and conditions of payment will be determined in coordination with
the student upon his/her selection in accordance with the following
guidelines:
1. The tuition fees, including any supplementary examination fees, as may be
required by the academic institution, will be paid by OFID directly to the
academic institution. Health insurance will be paid in accordance with the
institution’ s own standard medical scheme.
2. A monthly allowance to cover living expenses, books and accommodation,
will be transferred to the student’s own personal bank account on a
quarterly basis.
3. Prior to the start of his/her first year studies, the student will be
paid a relocation grant, equal to two-month allowance. OFID will also pay
for travel costs from the nearest airport to the student’s place of
residence, to the nearest airport to the chosen place of study. Upon
completion of the studies, the student will be paid the cost of one-way air
ticket to his/her home country.

III.Required documents

1. A completed on-line application form.
2. A scanned copy of the last university degree or certificate.
3. A scanned letter of acceptance from your chosen educational institution,
confirming your admission, subject of study and duration of the Master’s
degree program (must not exceed a maximum of two years).
4. A proof of meeting any prerequisites, including language proficiency.
5. A short essay ? of about 250 words in English ? giving reasons for
applying for OFID’s scholarship, explaining your educational goals, and
clearly describing how you will use the experience gained from your Masters
degree studies to help in the development of your home country.
6. Two letters of recommendation from professors and/or lecturers at
applicant’s present university.
